DCMP 10 23 2010

All columns for the VA I-66 K Route Orange line flyover have been completed. As of 10 24 2010 11 of the 40 span beams remain to be set. The span are a combination of precast concrete and fabricated steel. 18 on outbound track N1, 8 steel, 10 concrete, 22 on inbound track N1, 7 steel, 15 concrete.

All of the precast concrete beams have been set north of VA I-66 in the VA-267 median. There are 2 on trailers waiting to be set at the east end of outbound bridge.

Steel beam are being used on the spans over westbound VA I-66, the K Route Orange line tracks and over the future yard lead into Falls Church yard from the N Route.

The Contractor has begun pouring the track bed on the west end of precast concrete beams working east.

The bridge over Pitmman Run is complete. Construction of the barrier walls in the median of the Dulles Connector Road VA-267 is well under way. The retaing walls for the fill east of the abutmant east of Old Chain Bridge Road are well under way. All but one set of columns between Old Chain Bridge Road and Scotts Crossing Road are done, a couple still have forms that need to be striped. 9 post-tension spans on Track N2 has progresed from Old Chain Bridge Road to the west, 8 on track N1.

All of the column that will support the Tysons East (McLean) station are up to the mezzanine level, one pair is done, another still has form on it. The single track columns on either side of the station are at various stages of completion, all of the double track columns east of the Capitol Beltway are done.

The contractor has begun to stage the post-tension precast concrete bridge segments on the ground between the columns along Dolly Madison Boulevard VA-123 between Old Chain Bridge Road and Scotts Crossing Road.

All of the column in the Capitol Beltway VA I-495 Chain Bridge Road VA-123 interchange are complete. Only two pairs of columns between the Capitol Beltway interchange and the east end of the Tysons Central 123 (Tysons Corner) station platform remain uncompleted.

The second lifting gantry was assembled between 08 16 and 08 21 on the columns between the entrance and exit ramps of the outer loop of the Capitol Beltway VA I-495 and is working east.

All of the columns that will support the Tysons Central 123 (Tysons Corner) station platform east of Tysons Boulevard are done. The columns that will support the station platform west of Tysons Boulevard are in various stages of completion.

The contractor boring the NATM tunnels broke through on the outbound track N2 tunnel in the excavation at the east end of the cut and cover tunnels in the Chain Bridge Road VA-123 Leesburg Pike VA-7 interchange on 10 20 2010. (See Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project progress update 11 08 2010 (3.21 MB PDF file) for pictures of that) The outbound track N1 tunnel will likely brake through around the end of November.

The lanes of westbound Leesburg Pike VA-7 have been shifted south and the ramps to and from southbound Chain Bridge Road VA-123 have been closed to accommodate the excavation and construction of another length of the outbound track N2 cut and cover tunnel.

Excavation of the platform area at the east end of the Tysons Central 7 (Greensboro) station and the area east of the station has begun. Excavation of the ancillary area and traction power substation west of the station has begun.

Column foundation construction has begun at the Tysons West (Spring Hill) station. Column foundation construction along Leesburg Pike VA-7 for the elevated on either end of the station has not begun.

I am told by others that column foundation construction has begun for the flyover in the Leesburg Pike VA-7 Dulles Toll Road VA-267 interchange, some of the column are in at various stages of completion.

The various bridges in the median of the Dulles Access Road between Leesburg Pike VA-7 and the Wiehle Avenue station are in various stages of completion.

The column that will support the canopy and mezzanine at the Wiehle Avenue station are done along with the some of the walls that will support the platform.
